Diane graduated from the Muscular Therapy Institute In Cambridge MA, in 1999. Upon graduation she joined the staff at Natural Body Works. Diane then entered a teacher training program at the Muscular Therapy Institute, beginning as a teacher assistant in Massage Technique and practice Development classes. After a year in teacher training she joined the Practice Development team (at MTI), as a Faculty member, instructing classes in Practice Development and supervising students in the Student Therapy Clinic. Diane enjoyed teaching for two years before deciding to focus totally on her practice at Natural Body Works. In 2003 Diane entered the New England Institute of Reflexology and studied the science of Reflexology. One year and one thousand hours of case-study work later Diane became a certified Reflexologist. "I always knew I wanted to study Reflexology. However, I was (and continue to be) amazed at how incredibly effective this work is.

Diane usually treats clients with a variety of symptoms and medical conditions. Every treatment is designed for that particular client based on their history of symptoms and what they present with at the time of treatment. In her massage work, she prefers to focus on the true intent of Muscular Therapy - muscle specific massage designed to find and release holding patterns in the body. Adding Reflexology to the treatment prior to the massage portion relaxes the body so completely that deeper massage techniques are "accepted' by the muscles with greater ease. Diane says, "Most of the treatments I give now are a combination of Reflexology, Muscular Therapy and Spiritual-Energetic Healing (which is my own unique method)".

Diane added Hypnosis to her list of healing modalities in early 2008 after graduating from the South Shore Hypnosis Center in Hingham, MA. "I have long been a client of hypnosis my self and have always found it to be an amazing and very effective. There is so much that an individual can achieve through hypnosis that is simply not possible any other way. I use a Spiritual approach in my Hypnosis which makes it unique and truly remarkable. Most people are very successful with this approach through Hypnosis. Also, Hypnosis is fun and so relaxing - it continues to amaze me and my clients each and every time". Spiritual - Energy Healing

Diane Jordan-Godwin employs the comforting, loving, and wise presence of the Spirit world in all her Energy treatments. At the very beginning of each Reflexology treatment Diane applies techniques which open and clear the bodies' Energy centers (the Chakras). This allows clients to experience the healing and comforting Energy of Spirits Guides, including their own loved ones in Spirit - who will work directly with them through the access points of the Chakras. Also, Diane has been given the wonderful gift of being an open channel for the Energy of all the Angels and Ascended Masters. During Reflexology these amazing and palpable Energies of Love, Peace, Comfort and Protection are channeled into the client's body from the reflex points on the feet - directly into and through the nervous system. The effect is quite transforming. Clients commonly relate that they have never experienced anything like it. Feelings of Peace, Love, incredible relaxation, lightness, joy, hope, well-being, release of pain (emotional and physical) and more are enjoyed. Messages of encouragement and Love from Spirit Guides and deceased loved ones are commonly perceived, seen and/or heard by clients during their sessions.

Spiritual Hypnosis is a truly enlightening experience when paired with Spiritual- Energetic Healing. Through the expansion of the sub-conscious mind/soul (which has access to all Universal knowledge) the individual can connect with their Angels and Guides on a very personal level. Pairing Spiritual-Energetic Healing with Hypnosis, Diane finds that clients develop a deep relationship with their Angels and Guides which they can access at any time to help them in their daily lives. Elaine graduated from the Muscular therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA in 1998. This is what she has to say about her work: "As I do massage, I love being "present" and focusing on my clients needs. Janelle Remlinger C.M.T.

Janelle is a June 2006 graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA. As a massage therapist, her goal is "To provide each of my clients with a treatment that addresses and releases any tension or discomfort, be it superficial or deep, which is being held throughout the muscles of the body."

In order for Janelle to reach this goal with each of her clients, her treatments often blend deep Neuromuscular, Myofascial, and Muscular Therapy techniques with lighter Swedish massage techniques. This allows Janelle to release tension in each layer of the muscle and connective tissue worked on, in a subtle, effective, and pain-free manner. You will find that with each treatment you have with Janelle, chronically held tension and pain throughout your body is further diminished. This allows you to achieve an overall increase in your physical, mental, and emotional state of wellbeing.

Janelle's favorite Spa Treatment at Natural Body Works is the Aromatherapy Steam. This is due to the healing properties of the combination of steam and Essential Oils used in this treatment. She finds that a Eucalyptus Steam is particularly effective at relieving her seasonal allergy symptoms and upper respiratory symptoms associated with colds and flu.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial Release is very effective hands-on technique comprised of sustained pressure being placed into an area of Myofascial restriction and sliding through the tissue until it begins to stretch. Gliding through the restricted tissue in this manner helps to eliminate pain and restore motion that has been lost over time due to injuries, chronic tension, habitually poor postures."

NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE

The term "Neuromuscular Massage" also called NMT refers to the style of bodywork that uses constant, focused pressure on a specific area of pain. This pressure applied by the therapist using fingertips, knuckles, elbow, or thumb for up to 30 seconds at a time, until the muscle spasm has been released. This is a very intense technique meant to treat serious pain. Neuromuscular Therapy is very effective at treating pain and stiffness in the low back, and neck, headaches, repetitive motion injuries."

Nancy Thomas CST, RMT

"My name is Nancy Thomas. I am so very pleased to be able to expand my practice as I join the team at Natural Body Works and bring my skills in the field of CranioSacral Therapy and healing modalities to the Kingston area.

I have trained extensively in CranioSacral Therapy, Somato Emotional Release Therapy and Healing from the Core with the Upledger Institute. I have also trained with the Reiki Healing Connection, earning a Master of Masters level in Reiki, with the Bach International Education Foundation in the use of Flower Essences, and with Continuum Movement Medicine. Most recently I studied Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, in depth, and am certified through IKYTA to teach Kundalini Yoga.

This journey in providing healing began with my first level of Reiki in 2003 and progressed to the more advanced levels of Reiki in 2004, and then to my introduction in the CranioSacral Therapy system. Since that time, I have continued to access more advanced levels of both Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy as I recognized the unique benefits these healing modalities have in the treatment of such a wide array of chronic and acute issues.

I continue to study with the Upledger Institute, as a student and a Teacher Assistant, both of which broaden my skills in this field. Additionally, my teaching extends to Reiki attunements up to Master Level. Helping to create more healers is a very rewarding component of my practice.

My training in Healing from the Core and Continuum Movement Medicine adds yet another dimension to my work in dealing with chronic issues, sports injuries and pain relief. The variety of hand positions and breath sounds and techniques associated with these modalities communicate with the fluid system within the tissues of the body. My deep involvement with Kundalini Yoga as a student and a teacher enhances my sense of awareness both for myself and my clientele allowing an even deeper connection in assessing needs. These approaches are a valuable complement to CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki in the recovery and healing of the nervous system by unlocking and releasing stored trauma on all levels: physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual.

I continue to study with the Upledger Institute and the International Kundalini Yoga Teacher's Assocation, as a student and teacher's assistant, all of which broaden my skills in this field. Generally, my treatments are a combination of all the modalities I have studied and I look forward to sharing these gifts with the clientele here at Natural Body Works."

Sarah is an acupuncturist and herbalist licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine and nationally certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She recently graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest acupuncture school in the country, with a Master's in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) having studied Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. While in school Sarah completed over 2,900 hours of classroom and practical learning and gave over 500 treatments to approximately 200 different patients. Sarah is also certified in Medical Qigong Energy Healing and Auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture). She has been practicing Pangu Shengong, a style of Qigong (energy cultivation), almost daily for about three years.

Sarah took a seminar in Shonishin Non-Insertive Pediatric Acupuncture and had an internship placement at Boston Medical Center treating in/outpatient children and adolescents, which she loved. Working with kids is particularly rewarding because "they respond so quickly to the energy." She is currently pursuing additional training in both Dr. Richard Tan's Balance Method and Kiiko Matsumato's style of Japanese acupuncture.

Originally from upstate New York, Sarah moved to Massachusetts in 2000. Prior to becoming an acupuncturist, Sarah was a middle school social studies teacher for nine years. She earned both her undergraduate degrees in history/psychology and her Master's in Education from the University of Rochester in Rochester NY. Using her teaching background, she is a Teaching Assistant for the Point Location course at NESA.

Sarah came to acupuncture as a patient. She experienced chronic severe migraines which did not respond to Western medication. It wasn't until she found acupuncture that she experienced relief. In fact, "the discovery of acupuncture was like a miracle in my life and I am continually amazed at the wondrous results it can accomplish." Over time, she came to recognize that a career in Oriental Medicine was her true calling. Her work stems from a deep desire to help people live healthier, happier, and more balanced lives. Sarah usually treats patients with a multitude of symptoms. She tailors each treatment to that particular patient's medical history and current condition. Having been trained in both Chinese and Japanese style acupuncture, Sarah often blends the two approaches in her treatments. She generally combines auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture) and medical qigong energy work with her acupuncture treatments to greatly strengthen the healing effect while increasing the already substantial relaxation factor. Sarah uses Chinese Herbs to speed the body's healing, especially in chronic situations. Although herbs and acupuncture can both be used very effectively in isolation, when the two are combined they mutually enhance each other—one working from the inside out and the other from the outside in.

One of the beautiful things about acupuncture is that it treats the whole person simultaneously. So, for example, rather than going to one doctor for your thyroid, another for your headaches, and a third for your allergies, you can get treated for all conditions in one place at the same time! In Asian medicine the body is seen as an elaborately integrated system where every part is interconnected. So if one organ system or one pathway is out of balance, the entire system is affected and needs rebalancing. Sarah loves working with patients and seeing that even as she focuses on the main complaint, she is also able to improve many secondary complaints and help a patient improve his/her overall quality of life.

“ I started getting regular migraines with the onset of puberty. As I progressed through my 20s they became more frequent and more severe, culminating seven years ago in an atypical full body migraine that lasted an entire year. It came on suddenly, while I was driving home from work during the first week of teaching a new school year. Bands of numbness/tingling started in my eyes and traveled up my head and down to my occiput followed by severe pain. Frightened, I stopped at the ER on my way home and they gave me a neck brace and told me I'd injured my neck muscles. A few days later the same thing happened again although that time the numbness/tingling was in my entire body accompanied by occasional shooting pains, skin sensitivity, as well as vertigo and a severe migraine. These symptoms persisted for a full year during which I had a multitude of tests and many terrifying moments, as I had many symptoms of MS, brain tumor, etc. The final diagnosis, however, was prolonged atypical complicated migraine, something I hadn't even known existed. My doctors put me on many medications and then more to deal with the side effects of those. I didn't see any significant improvement.

At that point I would've considered a lobotomy if someone had offered me one! Instead, I decided to try acupuncture. I had traveled to China a few years before on an educator tour and had visited an acupuncture clinic. The needles used there were very long and thick so that was what I expected. I took my mom with me for moral support (and as chauffer) and found it not at all what I had anticipated. Looking back now, that first visit changed the course of my life. The practitioner spent lots of time with me and took an extremely thorough medical history, asking me questions no one had ever asked me before. The needles she used were about the diameter of a strand of hair and the insertions no worse than an occasional pinch. In fact, most of them I didn't even feel!

I felt some improvement from that very first treatment, although it would take months before the relief sustained itself between treatments, and I could start tapering off the Western medications. Acupuncture is cumulative, so at first I went twice a week, then once a week, then biweekly, and eventually periodic tune-ups. After each treatment the relief lasted longer and longer. And, it continued to amaze me that I could go in with pain a 9 out of 10 and leave an hour later with it at a 2. Her treatments inspired me to change my diet. I eliminated all potential migraine food triggers from my diet for months in order to get a baseline before testing each one as I reintroduced them into my diet. Over time, the migraine tapered off and I was able to resume normal life.

I went back to teaching and continued with regular treatment for years afterward. I found myself fascinated with acupuncture and spent much of my treatments asking questions rather than relaxing. I bought books and spent my spare time reading about the theories behind Asian medicine. Gradually I came to see that I wanted to help people the way I'd been helped. After nine years of teaching, I took a big risk and quit. I went back to school full time to pursue my dream. Today, I am happy to say that I rarely get headaches at all and when I do they are much less severe and more like "normal" headaches.

That year is now a distant memory but I do remember how emotionally and physically hard it is to live with chronic pain, having people treat you as if it is "all in your head," and being unable to work and accomplish daily activities. I have come to believe that our bodies give us signals and warnings and if we ignore them, they get louder and louder until we pay attention. I had ignored the signals my body had been giving me for years so, for me, that year was my wake-up call. It led me to make many positive changes in my life—changing my diet, finding healthier ways to deal with stress, letting go of emotional baggage, practicing qigong, rediscovering my spirituality, and finding a career that allows me to teach and make a difference while maintaining balance. I try to treat each one of my patients with the same compassion and caring that my first acupuncturist showed me.

Sue Eaton is a graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute (she graduated with Diane and Heidi!). In the last 12 years, Sue has worked in various therapeutic settings including Day Spas, a Chiropractic office, Yoga Centers and an Extended Day-Care Facility.

Alicia Ulvila, RN, LMT

Modalities practiced: Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Muscular Therapy, Pregnancy Massage, Spa Treatments

Alicia is a graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, MA. Since 2004, she has practiced Muscular Therapy at day spas and a chiropractor's office. In addition to being a licensed Muscular Therapist, Alicia recently went back to school and earned her degree in nursing. Working as an RN, Alicia finds she is able to express even more of her innate ability and desire to help others heal.

As a Muscular Therapist, Alicia really enjoys working with clients on an on-going basis to help relieve chronic discomfort and allow them to reach their goals of improved overall health. She often finds it very helpful to incorporate gentle stretching techniques into her massage treatments in order to increase flexibility and range of motion in restricted areas.

Sports massage is one of Alicia's favorite modalities and she has worked with many athletes over the past 7 years. Alicia says - "I love working with athletes in training to help them improve performance, stay healthy, and rehabilitate injuries."
